The 2014 trip with my Apperson

I had been planning, for several years, on taking my 1914 Apperson Jackrabbit to Kokomo for the Haynes Apperson Festival over the 4th of July 2014 weekend when it turned 100 and my Father will also been 100 on July 22. This is the story and pictures from the trip.

In the interim, Karen Pederson and her husband Tim, the granddaughter of Lawrence Baum the man who found the Apperson running a working shop in Michigan, contacted me. They wanted to know if the Apperson was the one her Grandfather found in 1953/54. It was and in talking they ask if I would bring the Apperson to Hastings in 2011 for her parents 55 wedding anniversary. Seems the rode in the Apperson in 1956 on there wedding day. Things did not work out for me to bring it up then. So I decided to take it for the family to see after the Kokomo trip.

I also had contacted Lindley Kessler in Nebraska who had three 1914 Apperson chassis and had loaned me the levers for the starting system and spare tire brackets, which I was able to have cast at Consolidated Castings, Inc. and machined to use on my Apperson. As I planed me trip I decided to take the Apperson out to show him what he help keep on the road.

The trip lasted 22 days and covered 4153 miles with no problems and perfect weather when ever I took the car out. I was greeted and treated so well by all I meet, I cannot thank everyone enough. This was a trip of a lifetime for me. I will tell more about each leg of the trip on the page devoted to that segment.
